The Baobab tree, also known as the upside-down tree, thrives in extremely dry environments and can grow up to 30 meters tall. Its fruit is notable for its dry, white, sweet pulp and oil-rich seeds. This tree is native to Africa and takes about twenty years to produce fruit, making it a wild crop.
Local communities harvest the fruits and dry them under the sun. The pulp is processed into powder, while the seeds are cleaned and dried for oil extraction. Since the seeds contain very little oil, pressing usually happens locally.
Cold-pressed Baobab oil is highly valued in cosmetics due to its balanced ratio of Oleic and Linoleic acids. The Baobab tree grows in different regions of Africa, reaching up to 25 meters tall and living for over a thousand years. Baobab oil originates from South Africa and is produced following European quality standards.
